Prescription Eyeglasses Repair Options

Posted on: 26 October 2021

Glasses that are worn while driving or reading small print can become an invaluable item that you rely upon. A pair of frames, lenses, and hardware can become damaged during the course of ownership of a pair of prescription eyewear. If damage occurs, optical product repairs can be conducted through a local or remote service.

Your Warranty

If you purchased your glasses recently, they may still be covered under a warranty. Many optical goods retailers offer coverage when a pair of eyewear is initially purchased. Types of eyewear coverage may vary. The initial cost of the glasses, the frame type, and the lens type can reflect upon the amount of repair work that will be covered through a warranty.

If you cannot locate your receipt of purchase, your eyewear has probably been logged into an optical goods computer system. The date of purchase will need to be verified and your damaged optical product will need to be inspected.

Remote Repairs

Some people purchase prescription glasses through remote suppliers. These suppliers may require a customer to furnish a prescription, pick out a pair of glasses, and make a payment for the product that is being purchased. If your glasses came from a supplier who is not located in your region, you will need to contact them. Upon doing so, state what the issue is with your glasses and provide your name, phone number, and address.

You will probably need to ship your damaged glasses to the supplier. This will allow the glasses to be repaired onsite. If you initially purchased coverage that will allow you to get a pair of replacement glasses for free or for a reduced cost, you can order the replacement product and have it shipped out to you.

Personal Repairs

If your glasses are only minorly damaged, purchasing replacement hardware or using a tool to bend the frames back to their original condition is an option. Only opt for this type of repair work if you are fairly certain that you can handle it. Repair materials are sold through many retailers and optical goods shops. Products are fairly inexpensive.

Upon restoring your glasses, keep them inside of a case when they are not being worn. If you tend to put on and take off your glasses throughout the day, securing the eyewear to a chain will help keep the glasses protected. A chain can be worn around your neck and will keep your eyewear safe.
