3 Tips To Keep Your Eyes Healthy Year After Year

Posted on: 24 January 2019

You only have one set of eyes, so it's obviously important that you do what you can to maintain your vision. While a regular exam from your eye doctor can help, there are plenty of other things you can do on a daily or regular basis to ensure good eye health. Keep the following tips in mind if you want to maintain your vision and good eye health for as long as possible.

I Wear My Sunglasses At Night

Okay, so maybe you don't need to wear them at night, but a song about always wearing sunglasses is a good place to start. If you regularly go through the day without sunglasses, you are potentially exposing your eyes to the sun's UV rays. This could be damaging to you over time. Invest in a good pair of sunglasses that offers UV protection and try to remember to wear them as much as possible while driving or moving around outside. Doing so will help shield your eyes from the sun and keep your eyes in solid shape.

Rest Periodically

No, you don't have to actually take a nap every day to rest your eyes. (Although that sure sounds nice, doesn't it?) Resting your eyes simply means remembering to close them every once in a while throughout the day. This is especially true if you are constantly staring at a computer, phone or tablet screen all day long. All of that glare can cause eye strain over time but you can allow your eyes to refresh themselves by simply closing them for 60 seconds at a time as the day moves on. Just be sure not to fall asleep at your cubicle.

Wear the Right Headgear

If you like being handy around the house, make sure you are protecting your eyes while on the job. A good pair of safety goggles can provide you with the protection you need for most DIY jobs. If you or your kids also enjoy playing recreational sports, you might also want to invest in some goggles for the swimming pool or the right kind of hat or helmet that can at least partially shield you from an incoming object.

If you notice your current prescription glasses or contact lenses don't seem to be getting the job done, contact an eye clinic like Wolcott Optical Service LC. In the meantime, be smart about protecting your eyes and remembering to rest them periodically as you move through the day.
